    help: changing directories in terminal

hey, i need to figure out exactly how to change my directory in the terminal. im trying to install wine and i need to do this..

Simply change to the directory where you downloaded SteamInstall.exe and type

    wine SteamInstall.exe

If you downloaded the MSI version of Steam installer, type wine msiexec /i SteamInstall.msi

    i tried
    cd /desktop
cd /striker/desktop (striker is my root name thingy)
    cd /desktop/

etc. ive tried soo many combinations im nearly braindead.

    please help

    Its Capital D in Desktop.
    Code:
    cd
    ls
    cd Desktop
    ls
I would suggest you to check linuxcommand.org too.
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

You should install wine using YAST.

i tried using yast. everything got out of hand. i find the ksmart to be much easier to use, much more stable. theres literally thousands of files already built into the repository. it self updates its great

i did. i got it working somewhat. now my problem is this:

the steam thing came up, asked me which directory id like to install it in. it didnt give me any of my linux directories, only my windows/C:

after i did all the next next next and let the application install, it wanted to update.

it didnt give me an update progress, just said steam updating.

i let it run overnight, because i did this about 1am but when i woke up it was no longer on the screen. so i assumed it updated anyway.

    i went to do.....

    wine Steam.exe

    and it said
    striker@dhcppc0:~> su
    Password:
    dhcppc0:/home/striker # wine Steam.exe
wine: could not load L"c:\\windows\\system32\\Steam.exe": Module not found
    dhcppc0:/home/striker #
i checked my windows part of the file system, and i dont have system32. do i need to have that??
