Graphics Card Drivers for OpenSuse 10.2

    Hello Everyone.

I'm in an awkward position. I recently installed Open Suse 10.2 on my new PC but I found that I could not play some of the basic games at full speed and sometimes my computer lags. After a while, I realised that this was because I hadn't installed the drivers for the graphics card. The graphics card is an NVIDIA 8600GT. The computer is only a few days old.

    SPECS:
    -2GB ram
    -NVIDIA 8600GT
    -INTEL Core 2 DUO @ 2.4Ghz

If you need any more info, please ask.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Oh, sorry - That's for OpenSUSE 10.3.

There are manual instructions under the one click install for 10.2 though

The openSUSE packages for nVidia are always pushed but I have found from experience that they can be either out of date or on the odd occasion have been behind when a kernel update is released. I have been left without drivers on the occasional kernel update and left to log in at terminal level.

Definitely try using the packages, but if possible download the manual install driver and store it somewhere and keep your kernel source packages installed in case the worst comes to the worst.

Thanks for your help. But I still have two problems.

    1. I am a newbie to Linux and need every step explained carefully.

    2. I do not enough time to look for the files that are specified so please provide links.

    This will be greatly appreciated.

Just go to NVIDIA - openSUSE and follow the instructions. There are only 6 steps and you can just cut and paste the commands
