Network not enabled when start machine

    OpenSuse 10.3

I configured my machine with with a wireless card. It works, until I update the kernel lately.
Now, if I restart the computer, I have to go to Yast Control Center->Network Devices->Network Card . There, a window popup (Network settings). I don't have to do anything other than click the "Finish" button, and the network is up again.

This could be a simple flag somewhere. Could someone please help? Thanks.

I would like to clarify that this is network related. It may not have anything to do with wireless, or even the kernel update.
It works once, then after some days, now, I have to simply click on the Network Settings, and then just click Finish. Seem like the network module is not up on startup.

Do you have a different network card laying around that you can verify this issue with? Instead of restarting the service via YaST, try typing this command as root:

    /etc/init.d/network restart

If that works, it may work a little more convenient for you. Maybe try running "ifconfig" before it happens to see if the adapter even has an IP...? How is your signal strength?

Wireless card not shown in ifconfig -a

If I run the ifconfig -a right after start up the computer, the wireless card is not found.
This wireless card is setup using ndiswrapper.

    /etc/inid.d/network restart

Does not help solve the problem.

I also found out that go to Yast->Network Devices->Network Card, and NOT click on Finish, just close and click Yes for the abort dialog would get the networking to work. So something is very strange going on here.

I believe the problem is the "Network card" module is not up by default.
How do I get that to start?

I got the thing to work

I change the settings to use Network Manager instead of the ifup method. Then restart the computer. When I did this, I saw the KNetwork Manager applet. I use that to connect to the internet. This didn't work.
So I switched back to the ifup method and restart the computer. Now, it works on startup.
There definitely is some buggy code somewhere there.
