    i'm new user on linux
i installed it for the first time ... i have windows vista on my disk

when i installed SUSE i choosed VLM then i installed it
but the password when i put it on the login start up menu it makes somthing crazy
it try to enter the system but it back to login menu
but when i put the root password it was too short & too simple & not many chars are different "4 chars" the root password was "ftft"

just a guess but passwords are case sensitive.

Why did you chose VLM?? Do you have a home directory. ie /home

You should have three partitions 1) swap 2)root (montaed as /) 3) Home (mounted as /home)

i'm new user for linux as i mentioned previously
i chose VLM cause the installation was telling me i will format all partitions, i was afraid if i'm gona lose all the data
but when i saw the "HPFS" i guessed it's an hyperd format system when i chose VLM for that it will not erase the data
but the problem isn't in that
the problem is in the password & i'm sure it was "ftft" for the root & for the user ......

the root is only works but the other users ain't work
"when i put other user password it make somthing strang it login but it back to the login menu
but when i put wrong password it give ma a message failed password"
and that a prove for the password "ftft" is correct

    plz i need help
i want to be from that great community

If a Log on fails it fails without going and doing something strange. So the problem is not logging in but with starting your GUI. I think you botched the partitioning.

Can you see a home directory with the names of your users?

Press alt-ctrl-F1 thie will take you to a terminal
try logging in as a user. Did it work?

As root tell use the output of fdisk -l (thats a lower case L)
