I did a little research and apparently that laptop uses the Intel HD Audio codec (same as my laptop). This chip doesn't work out of the box, but there are fixes out there.
I fixed it by installing "linux-backports-modules-generic" in Ubuntu. I'm not entirely sure if there is a package like that in SuSE, but you might end up having to install a newer version of the ALSA drivers.Registered Linux user #270181

i have installed all the softwares of suse10.3 which i downloaded from opensuse.org....where can find ALSA drivers...should i search on google...

Hi,
I had this problem on HP dv9700 (OpenSUSE 10.3, kernel: 2.6.22.17-0.1)
I download and install alsa-1.0.16 and alsa-lib-1.0.16 from alsa-project.org.
