    divx for suse

i am a newb to the world of linux and have decided to install suse linux 9.1 professional.

the os did not include the latest divx codecs. where would i go to get the latest divx codec for suse linux? and as a followup, is there a tutorial on how to install this codec - it's not as simple as clicking an exe file in windows.

here is the link for divx for linux - http://www.divx.com/divx/linux/

Go to packman.links2linux.org and d/l and install xine and kaffeine and all associated libraries from there. Get rid of the stripped down, raped versions that shipped with your distro.
OH NOOOOO!!!!!! You did it the way I said?

Being a newb I don't know how to install/uninstall apps yet.

How would I install the version of Kaffeine that I have and install the new version that supports DivX?

Just download the rpms into a single directory(I normally create a directory called /home/james/installnow). Once you have everything in that directory, just open a terminal and:
    Code:
    su
    Password:
    cd /home/james/installnow
    rpm -Uvh *.rpm
su=switch user. If nothing follows su, su=su root
Password:=password of the user account you are switching to. In this case, root's password.
cd=change directory. Tells bash what directory the following commands are to be executed in.
rpm calls the RedHat Package Manager(several distros, including SUSE, use the RH package Manager)
U=upgrade. Prefered over i(install) because U checks for currently installed versions of the package and configuration files.
v=verbose(ie. tell me what you're doing)
h=hash. Shows 50 hashmarks as the rpm is expanded.
*.rpm says do this to all rpm packages.
OH NOOOOO!!!!!! You did it the way I said?
