Step by step guide
OK I’ll have a go at a forum chat. I’ve never done this before so please excuse my ignorance and newness.

I have been trying to understand the ins and outs of various OS since I had a problem with MS Windows last year
A friend lent me VMWare to experiment with other OSs and the best one that I have tried has been the Suse.
So I then decided to download to a DVD disk and try to run it properly,
Well it seems that there’s more to it than the other three Ubuntu Fedora and Mandriva
Every time I try to burn the ISO of Gnome & openSUSE-10.3-GM-DVD-x86_64.iso
I get a funny message in Nero “The entered block size does not correspond to the image length. The block size may be wrong do you want to correct the value or ignore the problem?”
If I ignore it the resulting data is unreadable when I try to use it. If I try to correct it I get offered 2 block sizes 2048 or 2352 and four data modes in a foreign image setting window which I don’t fully understand.
Is there a step by step guide that I could follow without going to college and reading all about it?
Jim

Welcome to the forums!
Here's a guide that you can follow to make sure that you are downloading the ISO file properly, and burning it to disk properly. It also covers booting with the installation CD properly:
http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/ins...ll-cd-dvd.html
If you are downloading the ISO file to a FAT partition, keep in mind that there is a 4GB file size limit. This means that if your ISO file is bigger than 4GB, it won't be saved properly to the FAT partition, so you'll need to download it to another partition type.oz
