Compiled files, you must remove the components. May not be easy since they tend to be scattered a bit.

For rpm the rpm command can be used.

for all the options of rpm (there are lots)
    type
    man rpm
    or
    info rpm
    at a command line.

note you can use man, info and/or help to get help on just about any command installed.

Tar and zip files are just compressed files. They may contain binaries and data files. Files go where the zipped file says. Open with a zip file manager (such as arc) and it will show you where they go, but often there may be a installer included and what happen then is any ones guess. In theory you should be able to get where various files go form where you got the file or the developers site.

Generally speaking games and such, personal files normally (should) install in your home directory only. It may be in a hidden directory (one with a period as first character), Your file browser should be able to display them. Look in the view menu for hidden.

If at all possible it is best to use rpms since rpm maintains a database of all packages and there dependencies. Thus making for easy removal
