Whenever I've had that issue, especially after a fresh install it's been because the graphics drivers relevant to your card needs installing

Found it easiest to do that by booting to a command prompt rather than into X and installing from there, but then I usually download the graphics driver first

    Thx for replying!

I installed the drivers using the 1click-install link on nvidia's website, but now run level 5 doesn't load.... it says run level 5 has been reached, but it doesn't load the gui...

Run Yast from the command line logged in as root. You will get text screens and it is akward but you can do it. Use Tab to move between controls.

Go to Software-Software management search for NVIDIA and reload the driver.

This is why I like the hard method (it is not that hard). I just run th NVIDIA install program when ever I get a kernel update. Takes about two minuets and I'm back in business.

I reinstalled the drivers in yast from the command line. But that didn't work, so I uninstalled it completely and then I was able to load the gui again...but I still had no pointer. Then I installed the drivers again using yast, but I got like 15 dependency errors even though every one of the dependencies was installed (i checked them all)...so i just ignored the errors...

It works now and I have a pointer, so thanx a lot for your help!

But I'm curious as to why i would get dependency errors if all the packages are installed...?

    Thanks again!

Why don't you try downloading the driver from NVIDIA and manually installing it.

Well, everything works now, but I think I'll try it manually next time
