cannot access internet, no icon, no KInternet
Dear all,
For the second time I have installed suse 10.3 KDE.
The install went well. I cannot find any icon for connection to the internet. Nor can I find the 'KInternet' application (?) in the applications menu.
I can post any information needed.
The firewall is disabled.
I have a Linksys network card
The system has recognizes the Linksys Wireless-G USB network adapter. It is set to DHCP.
The system also recognizes Dell 82562V 10/100 network connection. Which is also set to DHCP.
Any help with configuring so that I can get on the internet would really help.
(The last time I installed suse 10.3 Gnome desktop I had no problems with the internet)
Thanks for any help. I can use some command line entries to get information if needed.

What kind of icon do you expect??
What do you want to do with the Internet? ie browse, email, other
I'm guessing you want to browse???
there should be at least two browsers installed. Firefox and Knoqueror
You will find them in your menu under Internet-web browsers.
If you want either on your desktop just drag one from the menu and selct link here from the menu that will pop up.
Or am I miss understanding your problem.

Hi,
I think I did not state my problem too clearly.
I cannot (yet) use firefox or conqueror nor email because I cannot get an internet connection.
I cannot find an icon that says something like 'connect to internet'. For some reason I was expecting to see it on the bottom bar on the right hand side.
I think the configurations are not set properly. I am not even sure if the system has recognized the wireless router, or the Linksys netork adaptor. (USB)
I think I need a lot of help. I have never been this stuck before.
I have accessed Yast2 and set 'network devices' and 'network card'
The system 'knows' that I have Linksys network adaptor and
Dell 82562v 10/100 network connection. both set to DHCP.
I am not explaining this too well. I will run any commands that you might need
thanks

Hi,
I have found KNetwork manager. I have clicked it and it is now resting on my lower bar.
There are two pop ups from the KNetwork manager
Connection status: No active device.
Right clicking KNetwork manager says 'network manager not running'
The linksys network adaptor is plugged in and the light is on. (if this helps)
Hope this helps.
I will google KNetwork manager to see if I can get it running.
Any further help would be greatly appreciated

good, now open terminal go to super user mode.
type "NetworkManager" (case sensetive) - this should start networkmanager.
