GDM login problem
Hello,
I have a virtual machine (vmware) where I have installed Suse Linux enterprise server 10 (SLED10).
Yesterday I try to start the Virtual Machine but an error occured.
A message pop up:
"The GDM user does not exist. Please correct the GDM configuration".
After this message It ask me for an user (without password).
If a insert "root" or "blank user", the server boot and the OS is load, but when It ask me for the authentication, I can't log in beacause all of my users aren't accepted.
The Grafic interface doesn't start.
What's the matter?
What can I do?
Thanks for the help.

The two files you need to look at are gdm.conf (probably in /etc/gdm) and /etc/passwd. Somewhere in gdm.conf it will list the username that gdm runs under; usually this is "gdm". But if there is no such user in /etc/passwd, you'll be in trouble. In that case you either need to create the gdm user or make gdm run under another name.

The problem is that I can't login... so I can't look at gdm.conf or passwd.

At the login manager screen, you can do CTRL-ALT-Fn (where n is any number between 1 and 6). You should be dropped into a terminal with a login prompt. Can you login successfully from there?

No... I can't login.
User and password aren't accepted.
