    Sound problems

    Hi!

I wanted to try another driver for my sound card, but when I installed it it couldn't detect the sound card and then my sound didn't work...

Now when I try to configure my sound card in YaST I get the following error:

"The Kernel Module snd-intel8x0 for sound support could not be loaded. This can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid i/o or IRQ values."

I'm running suse 10.3 and I have an nVidia Corporation CK804 AC'97 Audio Controller (rev a2).

I've already tried renaming files that contain "sound" in /etc/modprobe.d and running a normal installation in YaST. It gave me the same error

    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

    Try audio troubleshooting guide

Please try working your way through this audio troubleshooting guide:
    AudioTroubleshooting - openSUSE
... if you get stuck/stumped in the guide, please post here explaining where you don't understand what the guide is asking you to try.

    Good luck!

    Thanks oldcpu!!

step 4 (updating alsa) finally fixed it. Hooray!!

So, the reason why I tried new drivers in the first place was to get my 6channel sound working. Any advice on that?

    Thanks again!

I always send users with questions such as that to IRC channel #alsa where a number of the Linux sound guru's hang out.
