joining opensuse 10.3 installation in a windows domain

    Hi everybody,

I have both opensuse 10.3 and winxp pro sp2 in a single box. I want both the systems to have the same name - i.e. network identification. The winxp is already joined in a domain having a winxp 2003 as domain controller. I want to join the linux installation with the same network identity. Also I want to have the linux installation the same identity as the winxp one to the proxy server which is the gateway to internet. That stuff resides in some other machine.

Also I need to use the HP Laserjet 1022n network printer (connected to the windows domain thru' an unmanaged switch) from the linux installation which I cannot do yet.

I want to have a step by step guideline for configuring cups and samba for accomplishing both the above tasks.

    Can anybody help?

Since you want to join a domain not a workgroup

    Samba NT Domain Controller

    linux hostname

Thanx for your helps. I am gonna try the stuff. One more question ....... by what name the other computers in the domain - the windows boxes - will view the linux machine - the hostname as described in the /etc/hosts file or what?
And since both the windows and linux systems could be run from the box - will both the systems have exactly the same identity (ip and name) to the other networked machines - especially to the proxy server ?

If you name them the same they will

IP is either static ie you type in the address or it is dynamic in which case it is assigned by the network and may be different each time a connection is made.
