[SOLVED] acer aspire 7520 laptop sound
I bought a new laptop for work +. I installed Suse 10.3 pretty easily. The sound shows up as configured but I get no sound. Not through the headphones or the main speakers. It has a dial knob on the side for the volume and when I adjust it, the mixer panel pops up over the speaker icon and it shows it adjusting with it.
Any thoughts on what I might do?
Thanks

In a console window become root by
su
then the root password (note this does not echo to the screen)
type
alsaconf
you should hear a sound at the end

try openSUSE audio troubleshooting guide
If you can not get it to work after trying gogalthorp's suggestion, you could try working your way through this openSUSE audio troubleshooting guide:
AudioTroubleshooting - openSUSE
If (and only if) you get stumped while following that guide, please post here:
a. URL output of the two diagnostic scripts:
AudioTroubleshooting - openSUSE
b. output of: rpm -q alsa alsa-utils alsa-firmware alsa-driver-kmp-default
c. content of your /etc/modprobe.d/sound file

Thank you for the help.I am on Suse's site now working on updates.
I am sorry but at home I can only get a 26400 dial-up connection. I have fiber at school but I am a teacher with little time to search very deep on things. I thank you much for the help.
