    openSuSE 10.3 and Deskjet 710c

    Hi,

I posted this question on another forum but I have had just a counsil and not an answer... and I need to solve it

After two years using SuSE 10.0, I have now installed from scratch a SuSE 10.3 and now I'm not able to print on my old HP Deskjet 710c (with SuSE 10.0 I have had no problems).

I have tried to boot with Kubuntu 7.10 (live) and I have printed a test page without problems.

In Yast this printer is correctly recognised and configured.

    "lpstat -t" output :

    desktop:/home/ciro # lpstat -t
    scheduler is running
    system default destination: deskjet710c
    device for deskjet710c: parallel:/dev/lp0
    deskjet710c accepting requests since Thu Mar 20 21:25:41 2008
printer deskjet710c is idle. enabled since Thu Mar 20 21:25:41 2008

If I try to print something, "lpstat -t" output is :

    desktop:/home/ciro # lpstat -t
    scheduler is running
    system default destination: deskjet710c
    device for deskjet710c: parallel:/dev/lp0
    deskjet710c accepting requests since Thu Mar 20 21:25:41 2008
printer deskjet710c is idle. enabled since Thu Mar 20 21:25:41 2008
    /usr/lib/cups/filter/foomatic-rip failed
    deskjet710c-40 ciro 131072 Thu Mar 20 21:27:07 2008

And if I remove the job :

    desktop:/home/ciro # lpstat -t
    scheduler is running
    system default destination: deskjet710c
    device for deskjet710c: parallel:/dev/lp0
    deskjet710c accepting requests since Thu Mar 20 21:25:41 2008
    printer deskjet710c disabled since Thu Mar 20 21:27:09 2008 -
    reason unknown

Foomatic-rip failed... is there anybody out there able to help me in solving this strange problem ?

After these attempts, I have used a browser on "http://localhost:631/" to get the cups local page to enable the printer but I have had no result : the printer does not work and is still in silent.

I hope someone could help me...

    Thank you in advance, Ciro.

Another info : I've also tried to download the ppd file from linuxprinting.org (http://www.linuxprinting.org/show_pr...P-DeskJet_710C) but the result is the same

    Thank you in advance, Ciro.

Check whether hplip from HP supports your printer
