    Can't log in as regular user

    I have suse 10.2 everything was fine until today that my printer would not work and I decided to restart my pc everything seems to be ok but the thing is that my pc will not but all the way it stops on a log in screen I type in my user and password and goes back to the same log in screen but if I change user to root ant type my root password I log in as a root and everuthing works.

    how can I fix this?? please help me..

    Could be several things.

    1 the password file got messed up. I doubt this one

    2 there is a problem in starting the GUI (KDE/Gnome???) more likely something is messed up in the config files.

    As a test as root create a new user account see if you can log in to that.

    You can also rename the .kde / .gnome directories in your home and try to log on. Note all your user settings will at least be temporarily be lost and new directries will be created.

    Also are you using any of the 3d desktop stuff or any other desktop moding software??
