    Locate command

    i have opensuse 10.3. why doesnt the locate command work in this distribution. it works real fine in redhat or fedora core and is really very helpful.
    by the way i am a fan of command line and hence i prefer locate instead of search using GUI.
    any help is sincerely appreciated. thanks n c ya!!

    First, make sure you have the findutils package installed and then run updatedb as root.

    Install findutils-locate using YAST or zypper and as root run updatedb. Some distros do not install locate by default and openSUSE happens to be one of them.
