    Installing suse using only part of the hard drive

    I want to install suse on my external hard drive

    You can do this by selecting manual (or custom) partition (I can remember what the option is called).You could also use something like PartedMagic to partition the drive manually before you do the install.

    So, during the installation, select the target harddrive and make sure you create an ext3 partition taking up only part of the drive, and install only to that partition on the harddrive. Please note, you can divide the drive during the installation into three partitions, a swap, an ext3 for /, and leave the rest as unpartitioned space until you decide what you want to do with it later, and which filesystem to use, eg you may want a fat for filesharing.
