installation locks @ "updating kernel module dependencies
Hi all,
I've installed openSuse 10.3 several times on VMware as well as my second computer but when I try to install on my first computer all is well during partition and software install untill it gets to the end of the " basic installation ". When the installer gets to 58% and is " updating kernel module dependencies " the system just hangs.
- using the 10.3 KDE DVD
- compared MD5Sums - ok
- completed the Media Check - ok
- core 2 duo chip
- 3 GB Ram
- 1 320GB SATA Drive
- Intel® Desktop Board DG965RY
- tried the "no apic" and "no local apic" - no difference
- tried the text and gui installer - no difference
Does anyone have a suggestion as to what is going on?

Hi mehorter,
I was just wondering, have you pressed the escape key (esc) while the task bar is showing 58% completed, I think doing this, will show you the current package being installed (name & size of package).
This might explain, why it seems to be hanging.
I hope this is of help.

I can't do that or what I'd also try which would be the Ctrl + Alt + 1 to see what's doing under the hood. The whole system hangs. The mouse freezes. The keyboard becomes unresponsive. I try to wait it out but after 10+ hours ( overnight plus a day at work ) I know it's time to pull the plug.

Hi mehorter,
This may sound strange, how about trying to install Suse 10.2, on the same system, if this is successful, upgrade to 10.3.....!!
Just an idea.

Hello,
I have EXACTLY the same problem with SUSE 10.3! Has anyone got a solution to this problem. Did the upgrade from Suse 10.2 to 10.3 work?
thx

Hi knödel,
I have managed to upgrade from 10.2 to 10.3, before you proceed, remember to backup all data files or directories.
I hope this is of help
