Not Detecting Hard Drives
I just picked up an old Dell PowerEdge 650 with Windows Server 2003, but with plans to install Linux. I had an old Redhat 7.1 CD, so installed that; everything looked normal except it didn't detect the Intel ProeSet ethernet card. So I downloaded four current Linux distributions Suse, Ubuntu, Debian, and Fedora. Each one boots or starts the install properly, but NONE detect the hard drives. They are Seagate Barricuda 7200 7 40Gig drives. They connect to a PCI card as mentioned below.
9K646 CARD (CIRCUIT)..., CONTROLLER..., IDE (INTEGRATED DRIVE ELECTRONICS) ..., LSI LOGIC..., ATA100/4CH
8W522 KIT..., CABLE..., INTERFACE..., IDE (INTEGRATED DRIVE ELECTRONICS) ..., REDUNDANT ARRAY OF INTEGRATED/ INEXPENSIVE DRIVES/DISKS...
What am I missing, and why can I see them with Redhat 7.1?
I upgraded the BIOS from A04 to A05 which is the latest.
Are there Linux specific drivers that I need?
I'll take all suggestions
Yes, I a newbi as in I havent touched Linux since Redhat 7.1 was new.

Hi and Welcome !
Try passing all-generic-ide boot option. It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

Thanks, but where is this done. Do I go into set-up while booting?, or is it a command to be run from a terminal in Linux. I actually had to reload Windows to update the bios, but can I run this command if booted/booting on Fedora Live CD? I can reload Redhat 7.1, but it seems to bring it's own problems(not finding ethernet card) so if I can work with a live CD, would be great.
BTW - when it was running on RH, the drives were sda and sdb. added a usb drive, and it showed up as sdc

solved
I found a couple of other connectors on what looks like an extension of the motherboard. Connected the drives to these. There was also a BIOS setting "Use IDE" Yes or No, I set this to yes. and now finding harddrives.
