NDISwrapper - Home made no differentiation..

apparently, there are open source linux drivers for you chipset over at Main Page - Rt2x00Wiki

but since you already have ndiswrapper installed ( and the open source drivers are still in beta)
    see if this helps:

(remember '#' is representative of the command prompt as root.

extract the windows drivers, and as root, place them into /opt/ (or wherever you feel)

    #ndiswrapper -i /opt/linksys/RT2500.inf

    (remember linux is case sensitive)

    #ndiswrapper -l

(this should say if the driver was loader
If it says invalid driver! you need to run 'ndiswrapper -e (insert driver name) ' and check your case and path to the driver

    #sudo ndiswrapper -m

    adds ndiswrapper to startup

    #sudo modprobe ndiswrapper
This will tell linux to load the ndiswrapper drivers.

    #iwconfig
hopefully, you will see and entry called wlan0

    #ifconfig
should show details of the connections ( i.e. IP addresses etc)

    and that should be it...

    else,
run '#iwconfig wlan0 essid <name of AP>' if you don't have a connection and 'dhclient wlan0' to get an IP address

    good luck!
I'm having some trouble with these directions. Can someone help? I have followed them and received no errors yet. My computer is a Dell Latitude D600. It has an internal wireless card that works fine. However, I have another D600 that has this and an external Wireless G Linksys card. That card consistently gets a stronger signal. So I wanted to install it on my Linux box as well (openSuse 10.3). I get no error messages but when I go iwconfig, I find no wlan0 listing. Only my original internal wireless and my ethernet card. Can someone help please!

If this is a second card it most likely be listed as wlan1

Also note that the above instructions are two years old and a lot has changed since then.

Have you run Yast and seen if it can be recognized from there?

    Ndiswrapper - openSUSE

I personally don't run wireless. so others will need to help further

Thanks for the thoughts. No, it does not show in YAST. I did not start a new thread as I wanted it to be clear what it was I had used for reference. I look forward to other people's help too. Thanks for your time.

I've broken off these posts into their own thread. In the future, a link to the thread you used for reference purposes should suffice.
