If I understand right, you're using Suse but you want to install Synaptic. Why? Synpatic works on the apt systems, Suse is rpm-based. If you want to use apt, then you'd better turn to a Debian based system; if you want to use Suse, stick with Yast.

Which Distro are you using? SuSe, Debian or any other Debian based distro like Ubuntu?
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

According to this thread of yours, you are using OpenSUSE only. I would suggest you to use YAST for package management.

I'll have to agree. If you don't like Yast, then use something like Smart as an alternative. Apt is great, but not for RPM-based systems.

To install software on a Suse box without having to open up Yast, try zypper.

Check out here or 'man zypper'.

Whatever you decide to use, stick with it and don't change for fear of problems later on.

I really don't understand why you want to do this. If you want to use apt, best use an apt distribution. You can run apt packages on an rpm machine too, or vice versa, using alien, but it's not advisable for a beginner to do so: you can break the system in the long-run. Now, I know what you're doing, you want to use apt to install your rpms. But what I'm saying is that for maximum reliability you should stick with the tools that were built for your system.
