SUSE 10.3 Gnome Screen Resolution Mystery

    Hello,
I have a mystery. I have just installed Suse 10.3 on my Dell GX 260 with an integrated Intel Graphics adapter. Everything went great except I can't get the screen resolution to display correctly. When I try to adjust the screen resolution using the SaX2 X11 configuration utility, if I select the screen resolution I want (1280x1024) and then TEST the display, the test screen (XFINE2) displays a value of 1280x768 which might make sense because the screen appears to be "stretched" vertically. I've tried just forcing the display to other resolutions like 800x600 where it actually shortens the display leaving the top fifth of the monitor unused?? Very strange.

I've read posts about this and it seems like this is a common problem?? Anyone have any steps or suggestions for me? Seems like it should be such a basic fix. Thanks for any help.
