Are you using SuSE or Debian based distro? You should use YAST for Software Management in SUSE.
Anyways, its very easy to reset root password. Boot in Single User Mode and execute passwd command. Assign new root password. It wont ask for earlier root password.
Enter password of Regular User at sudo's password prompt.sudo apt-get install wineIt is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

Suse does not use apt for package management. Try using Yast as mentioned by devils casper

This is weird - here's another guy wanting to install software in Suse with apt-get this week. Is Suse abandoning YaST and making apt available on its OS? Anyway, as far as I'm aware, apt remains an application that should only be used on Debian-based distributions. As devils casper has just said, you should use YaST in Suse, or Smart (which is probably better) but not apt.

Some rpm based distros used apt-get (most did not use it as the default packaging tool) in the past, but most don't support it anymore preferring their own packaging tools as well as SMART. I guess some users particularly those who have used nothing other than Ubuntu don't realise that packaging tools vary quite a lot in Linux.

Supposing it can be done, in my opinion it's a bit like buying a Toyota and fitting it with Ford parts. Of course, you may be able to get it to work, with a bit of tweaking, but if you want total reliabity you should only use, to employ car-manufacturer language, the genuine parts.I guess some users particularly those who have used nothing other than Ubuntu don't realise that packaging tools vary quite a lot in Linux.Distribution: Archlinux

I've just quickly read the page I sent in my last post, and it seems that even the people who wrote it admit that apt on Suse can break the system:
What on earth, I wonder, is the point of running apt on Suse? Perhaps it's faster than YaST? Well, if you find that YaST is too slow (and it is, in my opinion) then you should use SMART, which is a bit faster.Caution! Before you continue be aware that incorrect usage of apt may result in a really undesired state of your system.
This may happen especially when you're setting up apt and you're not yet used to apt. If apt tells you that it is going to remove packages and you can't determine if this is good (with other words you're in doubt) answer "no" on the confirmation question!Distribution: Archlinux

I'm sorry, I don't understand your question very well: can you try re-phrasing? Are you asking if you can download the software that is on the DVD? What do you want to install?
