    Grub and MS Vista

I am about to remove XP and install Vista. I currently have the following setup: XP on physical SATA drive 1 (set in BIOS as the boot drive) and Suse 10.3 64bit on physical SATA drive 2. On removing XP and installing Vista the Grub bootloader will be overwritten, will it be a simple case of installing Grub over the Vista MBR or do I need to be more inventive?

You should be able to use the live CD to boot SUSE and then write grub to the MBR. You may find you need to change the information in the Grub config file to get Vista to boot. Just incase ... its handy to have the SuperGrub CD.

Where have you installed GRUB? In case its installed in MBR of SuSe HD, Vista Installer will not remove it and you have to add an entry of Vista in SuSe's menu.lst file only.

In case its installed in MBR of Windows OS disk, follow Jonathan183's instructions to re-install GRUB after Vista Installation.
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

Grub is installed on the windows OS drive. I have both the Suse installation and supergrub CDs and am happy with how to go about re-installing Grub onto the MBR of the boot drive. Hopefully all will go well, all I need now is the time to sit down and install Vista and re-install all my software!
Many thanks and I will post the result, success or failure
