KDE-3.5.9 update in SUSE_10.2
Greetings
Is it a good idea to use smart to update KDE 3.5.5 to 3.5.9 ?
Should i change the current KDE channel to one in skynet.be for
this purpose ?
I use smart 0.51-11 -guru.
I want to update the KDE to avoid the system-freezes after about
an hour of running. This problem is about a month old.Could not be
of hardware origin as window Xp does not encounter this.
So if i can get ideas as to avoid these crashes i would not bother
updating KDE.
I did unsuccessfully try this update thro yast (both avatars).
I followed the steps detailed in en.opensuse.org/KDE/update
however Yast refused to add the installation source:
the error
after downloding filelist.gz and primary.gz:
" Unknown error
downloading metadata failed(is YUM source ?)
or user did not accept remote source -aborting refresh"
I had imported the before.
I wonder if there is some problem with the nearest kde mirror
for opensuse_10.2 in Asia.
Shall appreciate your suggestions .
Thanks

I've never tried using SMART in openSUSE 10.2 and 10.3. For the problem with YAST, I'd suggest you try a different mirror and see how that goes.

Thanx
I shall try that.
By the way could the problem be due to ancient kernel
(likely 2.6.18.8 .. sorry i am on winXP) in the system ?
Actually i thought YAST must have tried the nearest mirror :ftp.twaren.net
,i could not get to the 10_2 repos in that site: it seem to have 10_3 repos.
The mirrors point to the site //dowload.opensuse.org/ .So the problem could
be different.
Any guess ?
cheers

The kernel is not related to package management, so your problem has nothing to do with the kernel.

Greetings
the problem repeats in the mirror http://ftp5.gwdg.de.
all the mirrors seem to direct to download.opensuse.org.
Since the mirrors register close 700+ downloads ,the problem
has to be at this end.
back to square one.
It appears that several users in the past have encountered "unknown error ..etc"
while attempting update from download.opensuse.org . While googling pointed
to error messages , could not locate either the causative factor or solution.
cheers
