tar.tar files
I am a linux noobie. Yesterday, I downloaded McAfee for linux from the internet. It downloaded with a tar.tar extension. I have spent a lot of time
trying to install it on opensuse 10.3. I have renamed the file several times,
but nothing seems to work.
Has anyone experienced this problem and found a solution?

Well a tar ball is just like a cabinet file in windows. It doesn't compress anything but it holds files together. I would assume you need to extract it and follow the instructions within - it won't be a source install but more than likely static binaries so you'll need to go with their recommendations in that case.
With that out of the way, I have to recommend that you forget about antivirus unless you are running a fileserver for Windows. You really aren't at risk from viruses in a Linux (or any Unix) environment. The entire architecture is against viruses propagating and causing harm. At worst a single user could lose their own data...if they intentionally launched a virus manually.
Realistically they do not exist outside of laboratories so why suffer the performance hit...just work on safe in the knowledge you don't need it
