KDE-crash at change over to battery of UPS

    Greetings
Suse 10.2 crashes (freezes) when for short duration the line voltage goes down
and battery takes over( UPS gives a beep). The line voltage drops
by about 30 percent for 10-30 sec and comes back, there possibly
is an overshoot in the line voltage
I am unable to get the system freeze by switching off the power
    to UPS manually.

Can one set the parameters or even remove one of the
background programs that monitors battery to avoid this situation ?

the desktop is KDE 3.5.9 and kernel 2.6.18 0.7

Windows Xp does not give problem , hence possibly is not of
    hardware origin.

    Thanks

    dheem

    Thanx
This problem appeared after last update of kpowersave.
It has become bothersome after summer madness of
    electric supply has set in.
    Shall check config kpowersave
    cheers

You may also want to drop back to the earlier version.

Assuming the earlier is still available do a search for kpowersave

This should show the current installed version and usually several earlier ones. Simply selevt an earlier version it will ask if you want to unistall the current. Accept it. there may be other packages that would require a downgrade but smart will mange that. Press the apply marked changes. Once the change is made lock the version you just downgraded from so smart won't try to install again. If this does not help the problem, you can always unlock and install the newest.

If i'm not mistaken i think you have to disable the repo with the new one or elsE it detects the new one i've not used smart but thats how it is on yast you will only get one version which is the new one unless you disable the repo with the new one and kpowersave will appear in red then you can downgrade but may be smart is different good luck

    Greetings
The problem appears to be due to unstable internet.
ISP draw power for their booster amplifiers from same
supply line and the back up of for their UPs are defective.
So the intenet connection is perhaps cut off during
    dips in the line voltage.
They have promised to replace the back-ups.
All these followed because the system freezes
    disappeared on disconnecting the internet.
In case the problem persists after reapirs ,i intend to
check after removing some of the intrnet accesing programs from suse( often i renove opensuse updater).
I understand that last update of kpowersave was
around same time as insatllation of amplifiers
    by ISP.

    cheers
