[SOLVED] SuSE 10.2 no GUI in runlevel 5
[SuSE 10.2] [problem] no GUI in runlevel 5
The problem occured after I did the following things:
- got online updates for my software, including Linux kernel, via the online update function of YaST, then rebooted
- downloaded + installed nVidia graphics driver from nVidia FTP via YaST in order to get 3D-acceleration, then rebooted
SuSE boots to runlevel 5 but in text mode, trying to start the GUI via [Strg][Alt][F7] fails.

Hi and Welcome !
Execute startx command and post exact error here, if any.
Post the output of this too :
Code:grep -i driver /etc/X11/xorg.conf
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

problem solved
Problem solved.
startx generated an error message saying a power cable was not attached to the graphics card. Since I opened the case of my computer to find the cable was attached, I edited /etc/X11/xorg.conf, adding the "NoPowerConnectorCheck" option, so that the check for the power cable is circumvented and startx won't abort because it fails. When I executed startx after this, it did not abort and the GUI did appear; SuSE does no longer boot into text mode, 3D acceleration works.
