    ugh i just switched off and this time i hit enter onto check disc for errors or whetver...its duin something now

    this time i hit enter on try ubuntu without installing or something...the first option...and its doing what it did before...black screen with "_" on the top left, but there is cd activity and loading acivity

    should this be happening when you install ubuntu?

    No this is not right.

    I suspect the Ubuntu does not like something in this computer. What version of Ubuntu are you trying to install?

    You might want to move this to the Ubuntu forum. This is the Suse forum and though many know both It is best to ask question on the forum that supports the distro.

    Linux is Linux but the details may very from distro to distro.

    im trying to install the latest version of ubuntu (8.04 i think it is)...i've left my computer runnin for about 6/7 hours now...still have that black screen..i was reading other peoples threads on different forums and some people say it takes a very long time...i've only got 2 more cd-r left so which version should i try? i'll keep the thread here for now until i get some breakthroughs....

    i really appreciate your help...hope we can sort this out...

    should i go for a 6.0x version or wich?

    You really should ask that question on th Ubuntu forum.
    Not trying to get ride of you it just more likely that someone will know the answer there.

    Just a general note when burnning the CD you should use the SLOWEST speed possible.
