For the codecs you need w32codec-all
note there may be some dependencies. This is a problem if you have no Internet connection.

for the sound are you getting any sound at all?
have you configured the sound card in Yast? Get any sound?

    try running as root

    alsaconf

What sound card or chip do you have?

    i runned alsaconf
it gives the message that it found the following two cards are found on my system
    Code:
Intel Corporation 82801G(ICH7 Family High Definition Audio)
    Probe legacy ISA(non-PnP) chips
i continued with first one and configured it successfully.
but i didnt listen the test sound that was made by the ALSA configuration setup though i got the message that i have successfully configured my sound card !!!
i am hearing no sound in my OpenSuse ,no welcome sound in fact i am soundless in OpenSUSE.
while in windows i am hearing sounds and listening to music.

You are going to have problems if you do not have any internet.

If you installed KDE desktop version you should have amarok already.

But nothing will work until you get your sound card configured.

here is a page that might help

    SDB:AudioTroubleshooting - openSUSE

Well neither does windows these days. But then you must have some internet since you seem to be posting here quite often.

The big problem is that the codecs are proprietary they are encumbered with patents there fore can not be freely included with the distro. It is purely a legal problem.
