Is SUSE really much slower than UBUNTU?
HI once again. I heard from a friend that suse distro in general is much slower than ubuntu, considering ram and cpu usage. Is that really true? What are your experiences? Is Suse really build on redhat distro? Thanks

If it is slower it's not so much slower that I've noticed. It depends on how many things you have installed and running like any other OS.
Suse has its roots in Slackware.
Different flavours of Linux are considered better at different things. For instance one might prefer ubuntu for desktop applications because its a bit prettier and perhaps easier to install software on and has cute names like "feisty fawn", whereas you might go for something like suse or slackware for a domain server because they are raw and manly and you have to beat them to get them going, like a plumbers truck, but of course they are all equally up to either task.

I think this has been posted before. The packages you install/use and the window manager has a big influence on speed. How well hardware is detected and use optimized will also have a big influence. A default install of each OS on the same hardware does not necessarily give a good indication of obtainable performance.
