    Wireless Help

    Hello,

I'm planning on downloading OpenSUSE 11. I've tried the different Betas as well as 10.3 on my HP DV6000T and the wireless never will work. What can I do to make it work? I have a Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network connection built in my computer. I'd like to know how to get it fixed so I can have it working on my computer. It seems to connect part of the way, never fully. I have an encrypted network and it'll never connect even after me entering the passcode. Help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Looks like that card uses this driver:
    Intel® Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN

It is already in the newer kernels, so you won't usually need to install it.

And, it may need firmware to load before it will actually work:
    Intel® Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN
You want the "ucode" file that matches your card. After extracting, it usually needs to be put in the /lib/firmware folder (as root).

To see any messages, run this command:
    Code:
    dmesg
Look for messages regarding the wlan or firmware.

Thanks! I got it working by taking off my WEP passcode. I guess for some reason wireless doesn't work with it on?

You don't want to run a wireless on your network without encryption. WEP is almost like having no encryption, you need to use WPA-TKIP. What method are you using to connect? NetworkManager?

Yeah, I'm using NetworkManager. It won't let me connect when it's encrypted for some reason.

    Read these two threads:
    First this one-http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=317823

    And then this one-http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=202834

I know that they are for Ubuntu, but maybe they will be of some help.

EDIT: On second thought, those links aren't much good for SuSE.
