    SuSE enterprise edition updates

    hi all,
well we can download the enterprise version of suse for free from novel, but the catch is, there will be no updates/support after 90 days if we don't pay. so my question is, can we download and install it yet somehow update suse enterprise like we would update opensuse? do the same updates apply for both? has anyone done this? or the enterprise version somehow becomes crippled after 90 days as far as the updates are concerned.
    thanks.

    Welcome to the forums chagla

I don't know ... why don't you just download & install openSUSE in the first place?

I don't think updates of OpenSUSE will apply on Enterprise Edition too. Novell is selling Enterprise Edition and there is no point for leaving such a loop hole in it.
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

I was wondering if there is a version of SEL, that is compiled from the SEL sources. Kind of like CentOS is compiled from the RHEL sources.

Unfortunately such a distro does not seem to exist at the moment. I guess nobody out there is currently interested in making a clone of SLES/SLED.

After the stipulated time, you will no longer be able to update your system. You cannot use the openSUSE update channels, because they would essentially change your system from SLES to a mixture of SLES and openSUSE and the software repositories are probably not even compatible with each other. You are better off paying for a licence for SLES or using openSUSE.
