Unhappy Suse 10.3 - help please?

after many issues with windows, HD issues, and not getting Ubuntu to work.. a friend suggested i use SUSE instead.

seemed to work wonderfully, till it gets to the point where its says "Save configuration" then it gets to 58% and freezes and i can do nothing but restart it. i thought i might just be getting impatient with it, so i let it sit like that for a few hours and when i returned it was the same.

if i tell it to just boot from the HD i get:

[ Minimal BASH-like editing is supported. For the first word, TAB lists possible command completions. Anywhere else TAB lists the possible completions of a device/filename. ]

    grub>_

lets just assume i know nothing about computers, and any help needs to be step by step please.. i have fought with this stupid thing for over a week now, and im ready to just give my friend my pc so i never have to look at his again.

Ok I assume it is freezing on the install.

So you need to check a few things

    1) on the install boot menu there is an option to run a memory check. Run it.

    2) check the checksum of the install disk image against the published checksum

    2) you should always burn the media for the install at the slowest possible speed to assure that it is burned properly.

    Tell us about your hardware.
