Motherboard Died on Server -Need Help
I am running Suse 9.3 on the server. The server crashed and the motherboard is fried. However when I put another different type of motherboard and CPU in the computer, Suse doesn't boot up. When I had a spare motherboard/cpu of the same type all I had to do was change the ethernet settings. How can I get Suse to reinstall all of the hardware settings for the new motherboard. This server is 3 years old and I haven't touched it since it works so well. I know the hard drive is good and if I had the same type motherboard it wouldn't be a problem.
Thanks for any help

9.3 is at least 6 years old and is no longer supported. It may not have the drivers for a more modern board.

What is the best way to get the system updated using the current hard drive into a new system ? Could I download a newer version and update what's there ?

That all depends on what the server does and how it is configured.
If all the data is on a separate partition it should not be too hard. But if the data is all or part on the root I would recommend to back it up first and then do a full install of the newer version. This all depends on exactly the jobs the server is doing.

upgrade installs seem to work okay these days but to be on the safe side:
Take an image of the old hard drive and copy it to a new hard drive.
Put the new hard drive in a new server.
Install a new version of suse as an upgrade and see what happens.
If it all goes pear-shaped all you've lost is a few hours work.
