Why not just use the native b43 driver? I have been using it on Fedora 8, and it works great. You still will need to install the firmware, following these instructions:
b43 - Linux Wireless
Also, I no longer use wpa_supplicant. The NetworkManager (aka KNetworkManager) daemon works great for connecting to a wireless AP. It should store passwords in either a keyring manager or KWallet.Paul

Thanks waterhead, but I decided to put kubuntu 8.04 back on. With the latest kernel it sets up my bcm4312 and my e220 modem by default. I will try suse 11 again after the full release.

That's interesting, because I see reports that it doesn't work in Ubuntu.

What driver are you using in Kubuntu?Paul

Works fine although it has set up a rather strange mac address which has nothing whatsoever to do with the 4312.
