Misc. Problems
There are three specific problems I'm having that I have not been able to resolve by browsing the openSUSE wiki. I am novice user of Linux and I greatly appreciate any help anyone can offer me.
1. Although SUSE detects my DVD-ROM, all programs state that they cannot read media from it. Including YAST mediacheck.
2. My monitor is not listed in the YAST controls, therefore YAST has detected it as another type of monitor. This is fine, except that the correct resolution for my monitor (1440x900), is not available. Is there a way that I can manually set the resolution?
3. Is there a way for me to control the speed of my system and cpu fans from within Linux? My bios offers a very limited means of doing this.

Hi there welcome to the forum's as to your problems
Your first one have you tried other reading other discs eg cd's movies if you can't read these as well its most probably your rom thats faulty you might have to replace it
As to your resolution what graphics card are you using have you installed drivers for it
Your last question i'm not sure if there are any app's that control your fan speed

Hi there,
1) I'm wondering if this is a mounting problem. Can you paste the contents of the following file? /etc/fstab
2) This should be easily resolved. Can you post the contents of the file /etc/X11/xorg.conf - the parts which deal with monitor and screen.
3) I believe there is a program, but I'm sorry to say that I can't remember what it's called. Have you looked in YaST? Try typing "fan" and see what happens.Distribution: Archlinux
Processor: 3 x Amd 64 bit
Ram: 4 GB
Graphics card: Nvidia GeForce 9800 GT
