I am running SuSE 11.0 64-bit on my office workstation. I have a DHCP assigned IP address and nameserver, along with an automatic proxy configuration URL. I have input the proxy configuration URL in the YAST proxy module and both the Firefox and Konqueror proxy settings. I can successfully access the internet via Firefox, Konqueror and zypper. In addition, Kopote works well and I can ssh into the machine.

However, I am unable to access the internet with any other KDE applications. I cannot ping nor use nslookup from Konsole. WGET and ntpdate do not work nor can my intel compiler and CFD program pull licenses from the network license servers. Thunderbird also will not work.

I have run "env" and I can see that the http_proxy variables are correctly set. I have cat /etc/resolv.conf and the name servers are correctly listed. nslookup shows the correct primary name server IP address, but tells me "*** Can't find yahoo.com: No answer" when I issue nslookup yahoo.com. I do not have a .kde/share/config/kioslaverc file.

I can successfully ping the primary name server and the domain name using their text addresses ... the numerical addresses are automatically resolved. I cannot ping any other address.

I am completely STUMPED. Can anyone help?
