Suse 11, KDE4, and compiz questions

Hello,

I have some newbie questions:

1) If I select desktop effects (simple compiz config settings manager) > and ENABLE DESKTOP EFFECTS > the effects work, but upon rebooting the system the settings are not stored and must be repeated. How can I get around this?

2) Prior to enabling the desktop effects (#1, Above) there were sound effects occurring during different window events. Once the desktop effects are enabled, the sound effects disappear, how do I re-enable them?

3) the time is in 24hr format, Where do you change the format (desired 12h)?

Any suggestions of the above would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forums!

I'm not one for eyecandy so can't help with the compiz question(s).

KDE4 is still very unstable, and I have sounds that work for a while then quit working, too. Hopefully, this will be fixed when the so-called stable version of KDE4.1 is released at the end of this month.

Look in system settings for the correcting the time format issue. You have to drill down a ways to find it if I remember correctly. I'm not on my KDE4 box so can't look and give a specific answer.

System Settings / Regional & Language / Time & Dates

...then change the time format from HH:MM:SS to pH:MM:SS AMPM

You’ll need to log out and then back in for the settings to take effect.

Found this at another Forum and it worked!

Q: I have to re-enable Desktop Effects at each login!
A: Try running 'rm -rf ~/.config/compiz' (This will also delete all of compiz settings!)

Ok, here you go:

I hate to be retarded, the path you suggested is non-existent
If I select the Suse Start > and in search time time... only one application starts called "Date and Time" then I get asked for the root password. From there I am presented with only a couple of options: Region, Time Zone, Hardware Clock Set to UTC option, Time and Date with a Change Button.

When I select the Time and Date Change Button There are 2 options buttons:
1) is MANUALLY with the CURRENT TIME ONLY IN the 24h format
2) is Synchronize with NTP server.

There is absolutely NO WAY to select, fill in otherwise change any option to standard time.

Suggestions? Or am I in an incorrect location?

i must agree kde4 is highly unstable i find it irritatingeverything is hard to find

KDE4 itself has built in desktop effects. You can right click on a window title bar, go to settings and enable them there. Is that any use to you?

They don't work on my system don't know why i always end up with double screen
