    installing suse 11.0

hello everyone, hope you can help with this problem. I am a long-time subscriber to Linux Format. I have been trying to install Suse 11.0; I am booting from the DVD provided with the magazine, the disc loads, welcome screen comes up, followed by the installation splash screen. I have tried both methods, installing suse 11.0 normal and installing suse 11.0 safe mode. The kernel loads, installation bar goes about a third of the way along and then stops dead. Then nothing, absolutely zilch. I have tried other cover discs supplied with the mag, they all worked. Could the disc be defective as I believe a new type of installer is being used. I am using an Asrock mobo, 2 gig of ram and installing onto a separate h/d. Intel duo core processor. Any help or assistance very gratefully received. Thank you.

Most likely a bad disk. Coming from a mag you simply do not know where it has been.

Is your keyboard still active? (You can tell by pressing the CapsLock button to see if the "CapsLock On" light comes on.

If it is, you could move to a different tty (ctrl-alt-f1) to see if there are any error messages. This was how I found out that I have to boot most kernels with noapic as a kernel boot parameter. You may have a similar problem.

If you suspect that the disc is faulty, the LXF guys can send you a new copy. There should be a number or email address somewhere in the magazine or on their website that you can use to ask for a new copy.
