network card not detected in opensuse 10.2

    folks

My machine is Intel Quadcore 6600 (q6600) and it has a Gigabit Ethernet card. Now when i installed opensuse 10.2 on it, it didnt detected the card.. i-e

    when i type
    Code:
    ifconfig
it gives information about loopback device only. But when i do
    Code:
    lspci|grep Ethernet
    the output is

00:19:0 Ethernet Controller Intel Corporation Unknown Device 294c Rev 02

Now i have no idea why it is so.. and is Unknown.. i searched and they say that may be Kernel version (2.6.22) above is supporting this card..

so may be i should install new kernel or try opensuse 10.3 that uses 2.6.22...

Do you think of any reason .>>>/???? any idea why it is so?

    Hello Kamram,
Just out of curiosity, why did you choose 10.2 instead of the latest version?
If 10.2 is not running kernel 2.6.22 then that is the explanation, is it not?
to find which kernel release you are running type
    Code:
    uname -r
You could try a 64 bit version of linux on your quad core.
