    Help! Setting up opensuse as a PDC

    Hi everyone, this is my first post, but im really stuck!!

    OK Ive downloaded and installed the latest version of opensuse, i want to set it up as a PDC. How do i do this?

    Also i have installed fedora on another machine and would like to know how i join this machine to the opensuse domain after it has been configured as a PDC.

    Please go easy on me as i am a complete beginner, but would love to be able to use this at the school where i work.

    Thanks in advance

    What is PDC? As best I can tell it is some sort of blogging software???

    My guess is that you would first need to install a web server.

    PDC = Primary Domain Controller

    If you are new to Windows Domains, Linux, and Samba...you have a lot of reading to do...

    Google => samba configuration pdc

    not new to domains

    Thanks for the reply, im not new to windows domains i run a network at the minute, but wanted to have a go at setting up a linux network, not with windows clients but with linux clients. Ive manged to setup my server but now want to join a linux client to this network, using some sort of authentication maybe openldap, or maybe somebody could suggest something.

    Basicly if i had 250 machines on a network and wanted linux clients and one PDC, is there an easy way to join all the pcs to the domain?

    You should be able to find tools for managing domains in YaST. SUSE has always been good for supplying config tools for this kind of thing. You can have a look in the Samba section too.

    "Domains" and "PDC" are Windows terms. If you don't have Windows machines to join to this domain, I don't know why you would want to run Samba as a PDC.

    For an all *Nix environment, there is NFS for network file access and LDAP for multi-user management (among others.)
