this is a new install (8th time) and for some reason after i downlaod the suggested patches, this error starts happening. it is adding about 100k in text to the messages file per second.

i am new to suse and i have no idea what caused this to happen or how to correct. any help will be greatly appreciated.
    thanks a lot

This could be caused by a bad hard drive.

just as a matter of curiousity, what do you see in the error message i posted that leads you to believe it is a hard drive problem.

as i stated, these errors only started to show up in the messages file AFTER i installed the security and recommended patches AFTER doing a clean install for the 7th time in 7 days.

since these messages are generated by the klogd daemon, i would suspect it has something to do with the kernel.
