What is this empty success file in root

I noticed that two of my Linux machines has a file named "success" in root "/" directory. One runs OpenSuse 11, and the other runs OpenSuse 10.3.

What is this file? Are my machines hacked by someone who leaves their mark as saying that I am owned?

Have you checked the contents of that file?
Checks its creation/access time using ls -l command.
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.
