Suse 11, FF 3.0.1 and plugins

I upgraded from openSuse 10.3 to 11. Everything went OK. Yast installed the newest FF and I went to check what plugins it picked up. To my surprise it picked up none. So I went to /usr/lib/browser-plugins and all was well there. So I went to /usr/lib/firefox to look for a plugin file, there was none. I reinstalled FF several times and no-luck. So I deleted it and the file in /usr/lib and downloaded 2.0.0.6, it picked up all plugins, but Apple trailers won't work. But my question is why doesn't the newest FF list any plugins?

The plugins directory in openSUSE is /usr/lib/browser-plugins. The reason why the plugins are not installed in /usr/lib/firefox or /usr/lib/mozilla is because other apps like Konqueror, Opera etc also use Mozilla plugins, so openSUSE places them in a neutral directory.

Thank you for the reply. Yes, I know the plugins are in /usr/lib/browser-plugins but they don't show up in 3.0 FF under "about plugins". When I go to any site requiring a plugin the site tells me to get a plugin so clearly 3.0 FF isn't seeing the plugins because they don't show up in "about plugins". I had them in there once and they disappeared without a trace.

How did you install Firefox 3? I use openSUSE 11 and Firefox 3.x from the openSUSE repos and it has no problems accessing the plugins.

I just installed openSuse and it automatically installed FF 3.0. I went back to 10.3. I hope FF does away with the disappearing toolbar labels or I'll be stuck with 2.0.0.16 forever.

I didn't suffer any of the problems you mentioned. Did you try using the latest Firefox 3 builds from the openSUSE mozilla repository?

I did. When they changed the bookmark layout and the disappearing tool bar labels I was pretty much disappointed. I don't see anyone else complaining so I don't expect a change. Too bad they didn't make a default to the "classic" format, the way it's always appeared. I did everything I could think of and it never picked up the plugins. I went back to something that worked for me.

    Thanks.
