network adapter issues with suse linux
Hi,
I'm a complete newbie to linux.
I'm having problems with opensuse recognizing my wireless network adapter. My integrated motherword network adapter had to be removed, and now I'm using an external pci network adapter, D-Link DWL-G650 card adapter. When my integrated adapter was working, suse recognized it well and I had no problems. But now that I have to use the external pci card, suse doesnt recognize it. I read some websites and was directed to installing madwifi for that. I got the rpm package, but having trouble installing it:
when i try rpm -i filename.rpm, it says
error: failed to stat path/of/filename/.gvfs
madwifi already installed
so i when i try to uninstall it by
rpm -e filename.rpm
it says there's no madwifi installed!
I'm not sure what's going on...
How can i remove all files related to this package, and how do i find out where it is installed?
I would prefer to install it using the YaST software manager, but without internet access i cant really do that.
If I connect a pci ethernet network adapter do i still have to install a driver for that or is it plug and play?
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks,
