Atheros AR5007 laptop chip set question
So i just got a laptop, a Compaq with a 160 GB harddrive, vista, and dual-core AMD Anthon CPU running at 2.0 GHz. When i tried to install openSUSE 11.0 VIA DVD/Live-CD, I get an error with loading the ath5k drivers, a FOSS driver apon further research. I did more research and found that there seems to be a problem with getting the atheros 5007 laptop drivers to work.
Correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't atheros supposed to be the most linux friendly wireless chipsets out there? it sounds like that I'll have to install the mad-wifi drivers manuely and do some hacking to get it to work, so my question(s):
How many problems have people had with atheros chipsets in openSUSE (or linux in general) and how hard is it to get them up and running?
I'm used to a broadcom chipset so I can't imagin it being any harder than that...."Do or do not...there is no try" -Yoda

Linux is user friendly, not idiot friendly.

You may want to try the latest version of the driver, as it is in rapid developement, and there may be improvements over the kernel version. Also try the instructions to test it in the first link below.

Download - Linux Wireless
Another thing is to make sure that you have configured the card in YaST, as a new card.Paul
