10.3 box < LAN > xternal accessed win 98se box
Pls what do I set up to activate the 10.3 box as a server(?) and probe the win box and the internet via a separate LAN connections in the 10.3 box? I want to run some win programs I can't substitute into linux on a win box and just read it from the 10.3 box. I've worked out that I need Samba, but the DHCP addresses are making life hard, as I don't know the hardware addresses. My internet is ok, I just want to reach into the win box and operate it externally.

I've found the easiest way is to simply run windows on the Linux box as a Virtual Machine. I use VMWare Server ( it's free) and Run XP in a VM. Note it does take a bit of memory I recommend 2 gig. Besides you have not lived untill you see Windows boot in a Linux window

Thank you , but no, I'm not getting XP. I have 98se, and don't intend to upgrade as it defeats the reasons for getting Linux in the first place. Now, how do I get these machines talking pls?

You can put Win98 in a VM also. I was just telling you how mine was configured.
It is tons and tons better then the remote solution you are asking about
What you want for remote control is a SVN client server combo. There are lots of SVN client/servers for both Linux and WinX

Thanks for the Tight-VNC ref, I'm checking it out. Much appreciated.
