Some keys arn't doing what they are supposed to do!

I want to try Linux and brought 4 different copies on ebay. I googled around and decided to try suse 10.? (? = i'm currently at work and don't have the disk with me but think its 10.2).
After I installed it as a dual boot with Win XP with the extra partitions and stuff and finally got it working, problems with some of the keys are occurring.
As I was setting up and typing answers to password questions I noticed strange behavour. I opened up the word processing program and tested the suspect keys. When I was pressing "a", what was happening was "tab a". Same happens when pressing q, only it was going "tab q".
When I was installing the os, I answered yes to all the updates, could this be the problem? If so how do I reverse them?
Thanks for any help offered.

well, from the description u gave, I judge you have several causes at hand:
1. if you bought it on ebay, that PROBABLY might mean that the issuer of the linux 10.? made some changes to it to suit his/her needs(an act provided for by the GNU lisence:care to look at it in the yast dialog, or during installation). If this is so the problem lies in the changes made that are incompactible with you.
2. "the keyboard has a fault(stuck keys or sth')"
3. you havn't yet confgured your keyboard to suit your needs. Go to the startup menu, the very first tab, select "configure desktop". A dialog box displays several options one of them having a flag icon. Click on it and select "keycoard layout". From there go through the available options and modify the access keys as you like.

BTW there is no need to BUY Linux. If wish to have some professional support you can pay for that, but you can download the OS for free. Also this assures you that you are getting an unadulterated version.

Thanks for everyones interest. I decided to download the lastest copy of Ubuntu to start my Linux adventure. It works very well and I'm happy to get to the point where I can see Windows and Linux boxes from either one. The problem I have now is that I want to transfer my from explorer favourites to firefox bookmarks.

Install firefox in windows import from ie copy ythe files to Linux. You will have a .mozilla directory put the files in the same relative position. Note doted files are normally invisable in your browser set view to show hidden files.

Your suggestion seems the best option and the least likely way that I will stuff it up. I found this link but I don't think I'll try it now, thanks Gogalthorp.
